Are you a middle or high school educator looking for rich, inventive lesson plans for teaching about Asia? Since 1996, the journal Education About Asia has been the go-to resource for teachers seeking exciting, age-appropriate readings, content across a wide range of media, and peer-approved lesson plans. Last night, Dr. Louise Huerta and her team relaunched Education About Asia as an online, open-access resource. Visually stunning, the Spring 2026 issue features articles on the yokai, demons of Japanese folklore, as well as lesson plans for teaching Japanese history, culture, and politics through the kaiju film phenomenon, Godzilla.
The relaunch is also a celebration of the leadership and vision of Dr. Lucien Ellington, who served as the founding editor of Education About Asia from 1996 to 2023. Dr. Ellington passed away in 2024, but he would no doubt be delighted to see his important work continue in this new form. Teachers will be able to access all the articles and lesson plans from 1996 to the present.
I urge anyone with even a passing interest in Asian Studies to visit the site at educationaboutasia.org. I guarantee you will find something to delight you!
