I teach 9th-grade Literature and Composition and AP Literature at a private school for girls in New England. We have a small boarding program of domestic and international students. Many of the latter are from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. Because these students work so hard to engage with the Western canon, I decided that the best way to honor their spirit would be to educate myself about their literature. This blog is about my experience of trying to learn the culture and history of East Asia by reading literature in translation.
