I am an American high school English/Language Arts teacher who has long been interested in World Literature and who is especially interested in learning about East Asia through the writing of its people.
I am an amateur and an enthusiast. I am stumbling about, wandering from book to book. My goal is to share what I find and represent works and writers from each country equally.
It is best to think of my writing not as traditional “reviews” but as my personal reflections on the piece in question. Often times I am writing as a way to understand what I’ve read.
In time, I hope to write articles on some of the common themes and topics I’ve encountered in my reading and also explain some of the challenges I’ve encountered while trying to discover new translations and also some of the strategies I’ve used to track down interesting texts.
East Asian Literature in Translation 
I’m new here, but I love your blog! I’d love to be in your class! I taught elementary school for 37 years, loving every minute of it, and I used origami lessons for rewards. My class(es) loved it. I have a great passion for Asian literature, particularly Japanese. I am absolutely passionate about Japan, and I was able to go there the year I retired in 2018.
Anyway, the Japanese Literature Challenge is a reading event I began 16 years ago (when reading challenges were a big event in the blogging world). It is not meant to be a challenge, as such, but a way of taking time to enjoy Japanese books in translation. Unless, of course, one can read them in Japanese. We read as many, or as few, as we like and post about them on our blogs. There will be a way to link your review on my blog beginning January 1, so people can come and read/comment on your review.
